Getting Started
Is QR Free really free?
Yes, completely free. No hidden fees, no credit card required, no registration. Create unlimited QR codes without any cost.
Do I need to create an account?
No. Our tool works entirely in your browser. No account, no email, no hassle. Just visit the site and start creating.
How do I create a QR code?
Select the QR code type (URL, WiFi, Text, etc.), enter your content, customize the design if desired, and click Generate. Then download your QR code as a high-resolution PNG.
Features & Customization
Can I add my logo to the QR code?
Absolutely. Upload your own logo image or choose from preset icons. The QR code remains fully scannable even with a logo in the center.
What customization options are available?
You can customize colors (foreground and background), dot styles (square, rounded, dots, etc.), corner styles, frames, and add text or logos.
What file format do I get?
All QR codes are downloaded as high-resolution PNG files (1024x1024 pixels), perfect for both digital sharing and professional printing.
Can I create QR codes in different sizes?
Yes, the downloaded PNG is 1024x1024 pixels, which you can scale up or down as needed while maintaining quality.
Privacy & Security
Is my data safe?
Yes. All QR codes are generated client-side on your device. Your content is never sent to or stored on our servers. Your data never leaves your browser.
Do you track what QR codes I create?
No. We do not track, store, or log any of the content you enter into our QR code generator.
Are the QR codes static or dynamic?
We generate static QR codes. This means the content is directly encoded into the QR code image. Static QR codes work forever and do not require an internet connection to scan.
Usage & Compatibility
Will my QR code expire?
No. Static QR codes never expire. They directly encode your content and will work as long as the QR code image is readable.
Do the QR codes work on all phones?
Yes. Our QR codes use standard QR code format and work with any QR code scanner app or built-in camera scanner on iPhone and Android devices.
Can I edit a QR code after creating it?
Since these are static QR codes, the content is embedded in the image. To change the content, you need to generate a new QR code.
How do I scan a QR code?
Open your phone's camera app and point it at the QR code. On iPhone and most Android phones, a notification will appear with the QR code content. Tap it to open.
QR Code Types
What types of QR codes can I create?
We support 8 types: URL/Link, WiFi, Text, vCard (contact), Email, Phone, SMS, and WhatsApp. Each type is optimized for its specific use case.
What is a vCard QR code?
A vCard QR code contains contact information (name, phone, email, address). When scanned, it prompts the user to save the contact directly to their phone.
How does a WiFi QR code work?
When scanned, it opens WiFi settings on the phone with the network name and password pre-filled. Users just tap to connect.
Printing, Scanning & Materials
What is the minimum print size for a QR code?
For reliable scanning, print QR codes at least 2 x 2 cm (0.8 x 0.8 inches). For posters or signs viewed from a distance, use larger sizes: 5 cm for up to 1 meter distance, 10 cm for up to 2 meters, and 20+ cm for billboard-style displays. Always test at the actual viewing distance before mass printing.
Can I print QR codes on dark or colored backgrounds?
Yes, but maintain high contrast. The QR code foreground should be significantly darker than the background. Avoid placing QR codes on busy patterns, gradients, or textured surfaces. If using a dark background, invert the colors so the QR modules are light and the background is dark, but test thoroughly as this reduces compatibility with some older scanners.
What file format should I use for professional printing?
Our generator outputs high-resolution PNG files at 1024 x 1024 pixels. This is suitable for most print applications up to A4 size. For large format printing (banners, billboards), provide the PNG to your designer who can vectorize it in Adobe Illustrator for infinite scalability without pixelation.
Why does my QR code fail to scan after printing?
Common causes include: (1) too small print size, (2) low contrast between QR code and background, (3) blurry or low-quality printing, (4) damage or wrinkling on the printed material, (5) insufficient quiet zone (clear space) around the QR code. Always test the printed result with multiple phones before distributing.
Troubleshooting
My QR code looks blurry when I zoom in. Is this normal?
PNG is a raster format, so zooming beyond 100% will show pixels. This is normal and does not affect scanning at the intended display size. For applications requiring extreme scaling (billboards, vehicle wraps), vector conversion (SVG/EPS) is recommended. The 1024px resolution we provide is sufficient for 99% of real-world use cases.
The QR code scans on iPhone but not on Android (or vice versa). Why?
Different phones and QR scanner apps have varying tolerance levels for contrast, complexity, and damage. If a code scans on one device but not another, the issue is usually: insufficient contrast, overly complex content (too much data), or a logo that covers too much of the code. Test with the native camera apps on both platforms before finalizing.
I added a logo and now my QR code does not scan. How do I fix it?
Your logo may be too large or positioned over critical alignment patterns. Keep the logo under 15% of the QR code area and centered. Ensure there is sufficient error correction remaining — simpler content (shorter URLs) tolerates larger logos better. If issues persist, reduce logo size or remove it entirely.
My QR code links to a URL but shows a 404 error when scanned. What happened?
QR Free generates static QR codes, meaning the URL is permanently encoded in the image. We do not host or redirect your links. A 404 error means the destination web page has been moved, deleted, or the URL was typed incorrectly. Double-check the URL when generating, and use stable, permanent links for long-term use.
Business & Professional Use
Can I use QR Free for commercial or client projects?
Yes. All QR codes generated through QR Free are yours to use for personal, commercial, or client work without attribution or licensing fees. There are no restrictions on how you distribute or monetize the QR codes you create.
Is there an API or batch generation feature?
Not currently. QR Free is designed as a browser-based tool for individual QR code creation. For batch generation or API access, you would need to use a programmatic QR library such as qrcode.js, node-qrcode, or qr-code-styling in a custom application.
Can I track how many people scan my QR code?
Because we generate static QR codes directly in your browser, we do not have access to scan analytics. To track scans, use a URL shortener with built-in analytics (like Bitly or Google Analytics campaign URLs) as the destination of your QR code. This way, the shortening service counts each redirect.
Do you offer custom design services or white-label solutions?
We do not offer custom design services or white-label versions. QR Free is a self-service tool designed to let anyone create professional QR codes without design expertise. For enterprise needs, we recommend working with a graphic designer who can use our generated PNG as a starting point.
